Shore Leave

This week has been Week 16 and part of the two week period I call "Shore Leave". This week and next are two weeks I use to take a small break. I want to keep exercising/working out but allow myself indulges.
There is one thing: don't go overboard. Don't gain weight. Have a potato or sweet dessert. Have a beer or fancy drink. Have a heavy sauced pasta dish. BUT NOT ALL IN THE SAME DAY!!!!!  Spread these things out over the week. You may realize that because your taste buds have reset those things are not as good. This past weekend I stopped at Danny's for Tator Wedges. Purchased a large, ate all but all I was thinking about was just how greasy they were. Yesterday I saw pancakes and sausage here on the hotel breakfast bar. All day I thought it would be great to roll up sausage in the pancake. I did it this morning but it was not as great as the I thought it would be.
Choose your indulges wisely.

Reminder:After week 17 then comes week 1 back on South Beach.
Thinking about how to up my game for my workout.
40lbs. Gone
6 mile workout running 5.25
Doing perfect push-ups 100 daily goal.
Feeling so much better
BP is down taking half a pill
Yeah my me. Yes I think I have done good. Now next session to step it up a bit.
Goal planning for next session.

Change: A Dirty Word?

Change?
Why is that when we hear that word we have a panic attack?  Some even take to their sick bed instead of changing.
Change for long term weigh loss is a MUST.
Programs that mail you meals will only work as long as the meals arrive.  Shaking "Pixy" dust on your plate of food will only work till the stuff runs out.  All these programs/pills/drinks etc. say you don't have to change and you will lose weight.  Why do most of them recommend a healthy diet and exercise which is tucked in the bottom of the box or hidden on the website.

Change must happen for long term results.  Gastric surgery patients are told they must change their diet and lifestyle for long term results.  Long term weight loss is about change.  We must change from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle.

That's why I believe that you must change:
BODY
SOUL
MIND

Success can be seen in change.  Change for a better me and you.

The body must exercise.  Just do more movement than you did yesterday.  Then more the next day.  Set a goal.  Then the next thing you know you have your own workout regime.

The soul must be strengthened. You must read the Bible and have a prayer life.  My most spiritual times come while I am working out.  I think it is because I am able to let go of the things of life and concentrate on God.  I am able to hear his voice and be ministered to.

The mind must be renewed to the mind of Christ.  Read the word and meditate on the word of God.

To be successful you must change: Body, Soul and Mind.

Change brings results.

Start today. Draft a plan.  Start moving.

Change is GOOD.

Baggage...I Have A Huge Set of Baggage

Why Diets Don't Work
Most people can do a diet till a certain point.  Most people have success for 6,7...10...12 weeks and the what happens?  It falls apart. They stop.  They blame it on events that come up, we all know the excuses.  It's called emotional baggage.  The majority of people have multiple bags and in every size.  Weight gain and emotional baggage go hand in hand.  Therefore, weight loss and emotional baggage should go together.
People start loosing weight and do really well.  Then out of the blue something happens and they just stop the diet.  I believe those past emotional demons start surfacing. We are not ready or willing to deal with the baggage so we give up.  That is why I believe weight loss needs to be combined with spiritual support.  I am not talking about some nice devotion book with sugar sweet stories.  READ THE BIBLE!!!  Some people may need support through counseling.

Here is are two simple programs.
1. The One Year Bible. Purchase a version that you are comfortable reading.
2. A daily reading from Psalms and Proverbs.
What better way to deal with problems than with David.  I will talk about King David during the 17 week cycle.
Here is the formula:
Psalms~~~~150 total Psalms
     Read 5 per day
Example Day 1                  Read Psalms 1 to 5
                          5                           Psalms 21 to 25
                          30                         Psalms 146 to 150
Proverbs~~~31 total Proverbs
This is easy.  Read one proverb everyday.
Example Day 1                  Read Proverbs 1
                          5                           Proverbs 5
                          30                         Proverbs 30

So you miss a day, don't beat yourself up just start the day your on.
We must have scripture to do battle with the emotional baggage to suceed.

15 minutes a day in the Bible can change your life.  It will change your view of things all day long.  Try it! Prove It to yourself.  God is right where you are just let him show you the way.

Start you devotional time today!

Sharing your Goals.....maybe NOT!!!

Proverbs 27:1-2

Living Bible (TLB)

27 Don’t brag about your plans for tomorrow—wait and see what happens.

Don’t praise yourself; let others do it!

You can not tell everyone in your life the journey you are embarking on.

You need to start people in your life into two groups:

                   Allies & Toxic

You know what I mean. Allies are the people who will support your journey. Toxic are the ones who will either pretend to support or will be like you tried a diet before and it failed.

It is so true what verse two says: let strangers tell you about your success. I have had people stop me on my workout to tell me they know I have lost weight and they are proud. STRANGERS!!!  Be careful who you tell your goals to. When King David went to battle he was selective about who he told the battle plan to.

Sometimes your journal will need to be your best friend. Tell Jesus. Write him a letter. Lean on Jesus.

Sometimes you husband or wife may be the person you need to just not talk about this journey to. Just journal and let them see results. This journey will change the way you live: think, exercise, eat and pray. This journey is about change. To change for a better life.

A NEW YOU!!!!

Goals

I believe in setting goals.
Before I get started with my second 17 week journey I think I need to set some things up for you.
Goals give us something to focus on.
Mike Murdock has a great short book on goals.

Seeds of Wisdom on Goal Setting (Seeds of Wisdom)

I like this site for buying books: alibris.com
They always have coupon codes.

Prov. 29:18
Where there is no vision the people perish.
Set goals
1. 30 days the immediate future
2. 17 wk goals
3. 1 year
Sometimes you will need to adjust your goals.
In addition to losing weight I have goals for my running.
1. 30 days put together my 5 mile run with no small walking breaks
2. Run thanksgiving day at Southpark in the turkey trot. 4.97 miles.
3. Run the Cooper River Bridge Run in April 2014
Write down your goals
You don't have to tell everyone your goals. Be selective about who you share your goals with. Do not share your goals with those TOXIC people who are NEVER supportive. Sometimes you may have to keep your goals tucked in your heart.

Here we go....

Here are the areas I want to write about.
I believe all three parts of the person must be addressed:
     Body
     Mind
     Soul (the spiritual being)

I want to break down this journey into five areas:
    1. Exercise
    2. Devotion
         (study and journaling)
    3. Nutrition
    4. Healing
         (body, mind and soul)
    5. Debugging
         (Mind renewal/reloading/refresh/restore)

Success.

Why:

The reason I am starting this Blog is to chronicle my journey through weigh loss, nutrition, devotionals and exercise.
I have come up with a 17 week cycle that works for me.
I don't believe that one program is 100% for everyone but if you take the parts of many programs and put them together they can work.
I believe there is a spiritual part to loosing weight.
